Module 21

Comparative Islamic Banking

The widespread expansion of Islamic banking is a recent phenomenon. Given that Islamic banks are founded  on identical Islamic business principles, and are governed by the same Sharia'a laws, one would expect few differences in terms of operations and  practices amongst them. In reality however, many differences do occur. This module examines those similarities and differences on a comparative basis. The Islamic financial systems in the following countries are discussed:-

  • United Arab Emirates
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Iran
  • Pakistan
  • Bahrain
  • Malaysia
  • Indonesia
  • Bangladesh
  • Sudan
  • Brunei
  • Thailand
  • Kuwait
